Nintendo will brick your 3DS if you use R4 flash cards, apparently

Well well well, as we all know companies around the world take extreme hatred towards piracy, and Nintendo seems to think no differently. According to GoNintendo, Japanese retailer Enterking posted a warning message on their site, suggesting to would be 3DS owners that your system might be unbootable after a software update if Nintendo detects you’ve been using an R4, an illegal flash card.
This story has gotten a response from Nintendo themselves, and replied to Eurogamer with this message:
We do not discuss product security details (for obvious reasons), nor can we discuss the details of countermeasures available in the Nintendo 3DS system. Nintendo 3DS has the most up-to-date technology. The security has been designed to protect both the creative works in the software and to protect the Nintendo 3DS hardware system itself.
Thanks for the clarification Nintendo (not). On a serious note though, we would recommend not using an R4 or similar flash card at all if you love using your 3DS because you never know, Nintendo could brick you.
