Nokia Say’s It’s First Priority Is To ‘Beat Android’, World Laughs

Nokia? Beat Android? The words don’t even mean to go in the same sentence, surely. However during his keynote speech at this years MWC, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop has said just that, that Nokia’s first priority is to ‘beat Android’.
So what exactly does he mean? Surely he can’t think that Android is the reason as to why Nokia’s smartphone market share has dropped significantly in recent years, because just like all other Smartphone manufacturers, Nokia could have put Android onto their handsets in a partnership with Google at any time, and joined a flourishing market.
Hmm. It would appear that despite Nokia’s recent transition to Windows Phone 7, and their little get me up with Microsoft, they are still partially blind to the fact that their business model has failed to see that their own product, Symbian OS, has been in decline and not packed the punch since Nokia’s ‘N Series’. So surely what Stephen Elop has done here is pass the blame of their failed product model on a company who’s product model has been near perfect so far.
I have a question for Stephen
I have a genuine question for Stephen on his choice of words to ‘beat Android’, so here goes; Stephen, how is Nokia, a hardware manufacturer, supposed to ‘beat’ Android, which is an operating system?
Android is set to see a storming year this 2011, and this MWC has shown us a few surprises from the likes of Acer and Samsung alike. Personally, I sure do hope that Nokia (and Stephen) can find a good balance between its admittedly well put together hardware and Windows Phone 7, but the words ‘beat’ are a bit extreme, aren’t they?
