Nokia To Axe 4000 Jobs, Outsourcing Another 3000

As a technology news orientated website we are always on the look out for interesting things for people to read, however the latest news to reach us that Nokia is to axe 4000 jobs and outsource over 3000 more isn’t all that great, or atleast not all that great for families of people who are getting the axe.
The hardest hit jobs cuts will reach Denmark, Finland and the UK and on Nokia’s growth, Stephen Elop said in a statement “In addition, Nokia also plans to reduce its global workforce by about 4,000 employees by the end of 2012, with the majority of reductions in Denmark, Finland and the UK”.
Nokia has seen its market share in the mobile market decline significantly over the last 3 years, losing out to fast paced Android and the iPhone. Although Nokia is planning on axing jobs, Stephen Elop set a more positive tone after the announcement, and stated that;
“This is a difficult reality, and we are working closely with our employees and partners to identify long-term re-employment programmes for the talented people of Nokia”.
These cuts point at Nokia taking steps in reducing their overall expenditure and gearing up towards running Windows Phone 7 on their handsets. Interestingly, Nokia is also trying to re-brand themselves as evidenced through their new logo and font.
