We’ve briefly covered something similar before on Technology Blogged regarding Snapdragon and Windows, however the recent unveiling of the Nokia Lumia 800 and Nokia Lumia 710 today marks two things; First of all, it marks quite understandably a new birth for Nokia within the smartphone market and a new leap of faith for Windows Mobile, and second of all it is a signifacant marker on the future success of Qualcomm, makers of the widely smartphone implemented Snapdragon processors.

So, as you may have guessed, at the heart of the brand new Nokia Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 smartphones are Qualcomm Snapdragon S2 class mobile processors set at 1.4GHZ, allowing Windows Phone 7.5 Mango to operate seamlessly and you as the users to gobble up media with a single mouthful.

“We are pleased to see the result of two strong teams coming together to bring to market smartphones based on the Snapdragon processors, in only six months,” said Enrico Salvatori, senior vice president and president of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies Europe. “The completeness of the Snapdragon processor and deep integration between Snapdragon and Windows Phone 7 have enabled a unique smartphone experience in record development time for Nokia.”

This news comes as ARM CEO, Warren East, said recently that in 2012 superphones will be around for consumers to pick at, and ARM’s next generation processors will be powering them.

Personally, between ARM and Qual, I have no preference. As long as they perform that is the only brand allegiance I have.

Do you know what ARM and Qualcomm are? ARM is just architecture that is licensed to companies that make processors like Qualcomm, Nvidia, TI, and etc

      • Jakk says:

Thanks for clarifying with Shick there. Yes ARM do not manufacturer CPU’s per se but rather license out architecture to companies to build upon.
