Rumours: Is there a PSP 4000 on the way?

There have been a lot of rumours that started circulating just 2 months since the launch of the PSP Go which suggest Sony is developing a new hand held.

The multi-national corporation, which has seen its PSP sales fall in this quarter have not yet made any official announcement – however, some recent television ads promoting new accesories for the PSP range have depicted quite clearly that they are suitable for the ‘PSP 4000′:

This advertisement is a promotion for LittleBigPlanet Accesories, and clearly shows at the bottom of the screen, or ‘picture’, that the accesories are good for the PSP 4000 which doesn’t exist (yet). At first this could be a typo, a simple misunderstanding between Sony Corporate and the advertisement agency.

But apparently there is another advertisement on page 17 of the Digital Edition of Games Industry Magazine  MGV, which also says the exact same thing.

Could it be that Sony are admitting that the PSP GO is a huge failure? And the PSP GO completely missed the mark.

Could Sony actually be suggesting that they forgot about customer retainment and relationship marketing all together?

I think so, and I also doubt if the PSP 4000 will offer a huge upgrade over the 3000 anyway (unless they actually use a better processor, 1GHz snapdragon chip anybody)?

I’ll be fine with my PSP 2000 I think, it still looks brand new, and besides – we still don’t know whether the 4000 is for real.

If you want a PSP wait for the PSP 1,000,000 – it’ll be out in a few years .

What do you guys think? Is there enough room for another PSP in the handheld market?
