Sharp Galapagos E-Readers Announced
Earlier today Sharp announced two brand spanking new e-readers known as the Sharp Galapagos range. Named after the famous islands studied by the one and only Charles Darwin, Sharp is claiming that the new e-readers are a fittingly ‘evolutionary’ step forward in the market, aimed at challenging the Apple iPad in its E-Reading capability (we’ve heard this ‘challenge’ speak before though, haven’t we?)
The Mobile reader, which is strikingly gorgeous, has a 5.5 inch 1024 x 600 LCD screen, while the larger more pricey Home Edition sports a 10.8-inch (1366 x 800) screen. Both devices include 802.11b/g WiFi, come in full colour and have an advanced marketplace with a promised 30,000 newspapers. But before everybody starts whipping out their wallets, Sharp also announced that the Galapagos range will be aimed primarily at the Japanese market where it is to be launched soon – so the chances of it making its way over to the UK or US doesn’t seem likely, however, the chance of a re-branded one is a possibility.
