Sony HMZ 3D

So you like your 3D to be uber futuristic huh? Well Sony’s new 3D headgear may just very well be the product for you, after the Japanese company has launched 3D headgear aimed at those who like to – or only get the chance to- watch 3D content on their own. The glasses will cost you £500 (or 60,000 Yen) and are called the HMZ personal 3D viewer, and Sony themselves say that the HMZ personal 3D viewer will deliver an immersive experience in home cinema, similar to that of going to the real deal.

Sony HMZ 3D Headgear

The device itself is made up from all-in-one goggles and earphones, and is to be worn on the users head rather than conventional 3D glasses which are worn on the face, secured by the ears (you know, like ordinary glasses). Equipped with a 18.0mm high definition OLED panel, the new Sony 3D headgear looks pretty good on paper, and it adopts a ‘Dual Panel 3D Method’ to output 3D images, whereby there are two separate panels for the left and right eye. Can you guess what HMZ stands for, then? Well that’ll be ‘head mounted display’ and this new product from Sony should be available in Europe and the US sometime by Christmas.

The HMZ-T1 although 3D-capable thanks to two 1280 x 720 OLED panels is also capable of offering 2D content in HD making it sort of beneficial to people with just a HDTV and not a 3D variant.

Check out the video below to see the HMZ-T1 in action.

Wow! Okay so i’ve got to wear something which looks like a Star Trek accessory whilst not getting paranoid about people thinking i’m some form of Cyborg from the future?
