The Sony Xperia Play finally gets official
So after the worlds longest game of blog cat and mouse, Sony has finally come clean about the Playstation Phone (which they’ve oddly decided to call the Xperia Play”) and announced it at their Mobile World Congress event.
It runs Sony’s skinned version of Android 2.3 on a 1ghz Snapdragon processor alongside some sizeable Adreno 205 graphics which should pump glorious 60 frames per second action to that 4inch LCD display with about 5 and a half hours of continuous gaming action if you so choose. As for the other smartphone basics, it’s got em all with a 5MP camera to boot. Interestingly Sony say that wireless multiplayer gaming will work by one phone turning itself into a mobile hotspot for the other to latch on to, which is a nice touch.
On the gaming front Sony is packing in a “legendary” PS1 game as well as Asphalt 6, The Sims 3 and Tetris as well as 50 or so launch titles when the phone hits the US market as a Verizon exclusive in “early spring” and a European release date at some point before that.
