Toshiba reveals Thrive, another samey tablet

[ 1 ] Posted by on June 6, 2011

toshiba thriveIt is getting harder and harder for tablet manufacturers to sway me towards one of their products. This isn’t because I have any negligable brand alligience, or favour any one product, but because all tablets are practically the same old stuff. With the HTC Flyer and iPad 2 being the only products distinguished thanks to Sense UI and the Apple brand, Toshiba has now announced their own tablet in the form of the ‘Thrive’, a product which sounds unmistakably like it is aimed at confusing would be consumers even further without offering much new.

Other than featuring a removable battery, the Thrive will ship with a native 10.1-inch display with a 1280 x 800 resolution and will be powered by Android 3.1. The tablet will offer a dual camera system with a 5MP rear-facing and a 2MP front-facing camera, which won’t really be needed (lets be honest). Other features include full-sized HDMI and USB ports for connectivity, as well as being powered by a dual-core Tegra 2 processor.

I think the majority of consumers out there would raise their glass with me to toast yet another samey tablet in to the market, although with that being said other manufacturers aren’t trying hard enough either.
