US Military To Use Tactical Bullet Detectors, Could Help Save Lives

Games such as Call Of Duty can trot along and move on over now, as the real US military are in town, and they have taken it upon themselves to move video games even further in to reality with the official announcement that they are to ship 13,000 IGD Bullet Detection units out to Afghanistan later this month.
So what is an IGD? Well IGD stands for an Individual Gunshot Detector, and the device itself has been produced by QinetiQ to acoustically monitor sound waves and tell a soldier where bullets were shot from. Allowing this to happen are four sensors towards the back of the device and it will analyse the sound waves and tell the soldier which direction the shot originated. Overall, the IGD Bullet Detector looks like a solid bit of kit, however for it be a serious bit of covert gear, the US military will have to downsize this for the battlefield.
Whether or not soldiers who have bullets whizzing around their heads are going to instinctively bother using this device during a fire fight is unclear, however we’d bet that this little bit of tech will make its way over to other military countries sharpish.
