Windows Phone 7 could be the new black

Windows 7 Mobile Series is here folks – the successor to 6 series and the changes are really quite vast – obviously built for capacitive touch screens, with no squinting at icons / folders and pressing with a stylus, Windows 7 Mobile appears to be a completely fresh look at what a mobile operating system should be like. With large blue icons pointing to ‘Phone’, ‘Text’ and ‘Facebook / social’ ease of use is a key feature.

Minimalistic is the word some people might use, or even simplistic – but W7 Mobile appears to be really, well, quite fantastic. With no shaded icons, no off putting backgrounds and clean typography and transition animations, W7 Mobile (also knows as Metro) has been completely made from scratch – something which is very un-Microsoft ish. The home screen, for example, sets your focus on square tiles which point to specific applications and functions. For quick jumps there is a list of apps which are located to the right hand side of th display, with the ability to rank more favoured apps / functions higher.
For me, Windows 7 Mobile could be the new black. That interface looks mesmerizing, colourful and all round really welcoming. I find it truly hard to believe that round about a year ago MS was showing off 6.5 which looks like a pile of dog excrament compared to this. If MS can perfect this OS, which is nothing like anything else on the market today – seriously, this is nothing like WebOS, Android or the iPhone OS then we could see something really interesting happen in the world of Smartphones.
Could Microsoft sway Manufacturers away from Android with this new offering? Seeming as they were (before this announcement) moving away fom 6.5 for the latter?

I think it looks absoloutely gorgeous. Those ’tiles’ look kind of retro but modern at the same time. The back end of it too (as you say) is completely new. I am really excited as a consumer about this and can not wait.In terms of your ‘can this provide an alternative to Android’ the answer is YES. Because the HD2 which is an awesome phone ran 6.5.3 with HTC Sese slapped on. Thank you for the post. I have been reading this website for 2 weeks now and to be honest do not go anywhere else for my daily thinking. Your posts always spark my curiosity.
Either I have been in the dark or this is a completely new post. Lol. Seriously, how could I miss this?@anoriginaltecherAgreed. With those looks i’d happily snap up a phone run by WM7. I do love Android though – I have a Motorola Droid! i just love my QWERTY physicals though. Hope they bring one out alongside this handset. Nice coverage cheers.
