WordPress vs Blogger: Battle of the free host
Around 2 months ago I moved over to a self host WordPress set up for my website Technology Blogged. My previous platform, Blogger, had been a brilliant friend to me and kicked started my all round passion for both blogging and increased my feeling that I can make a difference.
In this article I aim to explain which platform is best if you either have or are considering blogging through a free host.
When I started out with Technology Blogged I built my website on Blogger, you can find my previous website here > Old Technology Blogged. I started out on Blogger because I had many recommendations from friends and family, who all together found it to be fantastic for its ease of use, functionality and the fact it was free.
Blogger has various customisation methods available, including the ability to edit your own templates in the CSS stylesheet. It also allows you to drag and drop your widgets into place and gives you a basic preview layout of what your website will be like.
The templates are also vast, and if you search online you can find some brilliant templates from single column, 2 column, 3 column and adapted from WordPress templates for that professional feel.
As a free host Blogger is superior to WordPress in every way, the thing that steered me towards Blogger over WordPress as a free host was the fact that I couldn’t edit my own CSS stylesheet from within WordPress without purchasing an editor, another thing that also left me wanting was the lack of templates available – and the ones that are were rather lack lustre.
I’m not slating WordPress as a free host though, as the market for people whom want a .wordpress.com domain has been pretty well established, but whenever I see a .wordpress domain I can’t help but not undertand their methods, or why they didn’t choose a .blogspot.
Which platform do you guys use and which do you find the best?
